Berk-Tek Announces 2010/2011 Boscov Scholarship Recipients

 New Holland, PA – May 12, 2010… Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company, one of the leading copper and fiber optic cabling manufacturers for 49 years, announces three recipients of the annual Boscov Scholarship. The Boscov–Berk-Tek, Inc., Scholarship Fund provides grants to descendants of current Berk-Tek employees attending post-secondary institutions, including accredited colleges, universities or professional technical schools.

 
The Boscov-Berk-Tek, Inc., Scholarship Fund was established in 1993, by Berk-Tek’s Founder Joseph L. Boscov, due to his strong convictions in furthering education. Each year the recipients are selected on their own merits, which include their grades (at least a “B” average), as well as their extra-curricular activities and moral characteristics. As part of the application, they must also receive recommendations from teachers/professors.
 
For the school year, 2010/11, the following students were selected by the Scholarship committee, which consists solely of representatives from local colleges and technical schools:
 
Jessica Freese, daughter of Paul and Kathy Freese of Mohnton, PA, attending Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA, majoring in Elementary Education. Paul is the Equipment, Supply & Service Procurement Manager.
 
Gregory Bergman, son of Daniel and Kathleen Bergman of Shillington, PA, attending the University of Pittsburgh with a dual major in Political Science and History. Daniel is a Process Engineering Supervisor.
 
Nicole Yunginger, daughter of David and Joan Yunginger of New Holland, PA, attending Seton Hall University with a major in Nursing. David is a Process Technician. This is the second time that Nicole has been awarded this scholarship. She received it in 2008. Her sister, Nadine, was awarded this scholarship in 2009.
 
This month kicks off the upcoming 50th anniversary of Berk-Tek’s innovation and excellence in the cabling industry. Berk-Tek is a leading manufacturer of more than 100 different network copper and fiber optic cable products. The company has led in the development of high-performance and enhanced fiber optic and UTP cables designed to transport high-speed data, voice and video transmissions. Founded on May 1, 1961 in Reading, PA, Berk-Tek moved to the existing 300,000-square-foot headquarters and copper manufacturing facility in New Holland (White Oak Road) in 1983. The fiber optic cable manufacturing is located in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
