Berk-Tek Celebrates First Annual Safety Day

BerkTekSafetyDay3 New Holland, PA – June 20, 2014 – During the week of June 16, Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company, along with 170 global corporate locations celebrated “Safety Days.” According to Health and Safety Coordinator, Frank Kourt, “Nexans considers safety as a priority and despite of efforts made in the past seven years they want to continue to reduce the accident rate. Top management decided to dedicate one day a year to support the topic. At Berk-Tek over the past three years we’ve made notablestrides in safety that we have reduced our lost times incidents and medical incidents that our goal of zero appears attainable.”

Berk-Tek’s annual safety policy requires 100% of the employees to undergo safety training and complete related exams. Topics covered include: electrical, slips and falls, forklift, ladders, confined spaces, back safety, hearing and eye protection, fire protection and hazardous substances. Within the company there are 52 certified first time responders to aid in accidents. The responders are trained in first aid, CPR, and Internal Emergency Monitor.

At the safety day celebration, the employees responded to an emergency panic alarm. Officer James Young, of the New Holland Police Department, greeted employees as they exited the building. Immediately following, group photos of the employees wearing company-issued safety t-shirts were taken outside of the facility. At the employee lunch, the attendees were shown a safety video message from Frederic Vincent, Chairman and CEO of Nexans, on the value of safety. In addition, there was a question and answer session on one of the main safety training topics, slips and falls. Each company location was given a safety flag which will be displayed at the entrance.
