Berk-Tek LANmark Cables now ETL Verified Beyond Standards
New Holland, PA – May 4, 2009…Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company, now provides customers independent ETL Verification of cable performance to Berk-Tek specified cable requirements, which significantly exceed the TIA/EIA-568-B.2 and ISO/IEC 11801 standards that have traditionally served as the industry benchmarks. Berk-Tek is the first manufacturer to develop this program at the component level, which focuses on the LANmark™ family of Category 5e, 6 and 6a cables.
Many manufacturers claim enhanced performance for electrical characteristics, such as return loss, crosstalk (near and far) and attenuation. Berk-Tek is the first manufacturer to utilize third-party verification to certify that the claimed cable performance is being met. Testing is performed by Intertek, the world’s largest independent testing, inspection and certification provider, and proprietor of the ETL Verification Mark. “The flexibility at Intertek allows us to focus on our client's unique products and their relative testing needs. As a global testing services provider, we welcome opportunities to offer proprietary testing, like LANmark Program.” states Antoine Pelletier, Datacom Engineer at Intertek ETL.
As part of the ongoing verification program samples are randomly selected from Berk-Tek’s (New Holland, PA) manufacturing floor by an Intertek employee and evaluated per the requirements of the program. Currently, the tested cables include: LANmark-350™ Category 5e, LANmark™-1000 enhanced Category 6 and LANmark™-2000 premium Category 6. The LANmark™-10G2 Augmented Category 6a will soon be added to the mix.
“This additional level of third-party testing truly sets Berk-Tek apart,” states Todd Harpel, Berk-Tek’s Director of Marketing. “It gives our customers additional confidence that they are getting the performance they have specified.”
Berk-Tek has secured a position in the “Intertek Directory of ETL Verified and ETL Listed Cabling Products,” with a dedicated page to the LANmark family of UTP cables. Official ETL test reports for each electrical characteristic on each cable are available on the Berk-Tek Web site: www.berktek.com
