Berk-Tek to Show New Cable Enhancements and Packaging at the BICSI Winter Conference 2015
New Holland, PA, February 3, 2015 Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company, a leading manufacturer of copper and fiber optic cable products, will be displaying their new unique cable and packaging innovations in the Berk-Tek Leviton Technologies Booth #907 at the BICSI Winter Conference, February 22-26, 2015, in Orlando, FL.
Samples of Berk-Tek’s new products will be available in the 20’x30’ island booth being shared with Leviton Network Solutions as Berk-Tek Leviton Technologies (BLT). “Berk-Tek’s main focus is high-bandwidth with our fiber products, targeting data center and enterprise applications, and for copper, it’s all about ease of installation for the contractors,” explains James Frey, Berk-Tek’s Director of Marketing. “In addition, Berk-Tek products are shown as BLT end-to-end solutions in the copper and fiber racks on the exhibit floor,” he adds.
Berk-Tek’s unique Micro Datacenter Plenum (MDP) fiber optic cable is the smallest diameter fiber cable construction available, ideal for data centers as it allows better airflow in the pathways, equipment racks and cabinets. At BICSI, they will have samples of their new violet jacketed MDP cable, which denotes fiber performance beyond OM4 standards. “This cable includes GIGAlite-10XB fiber which exhibits bandwidth of 4900 MHz-kilometer, resulting in extended distances for 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet,” explains Raed Samamra, Berk-Tek’s Fiber Optic Business Manager. “This OM4+ cable can push 10 Gig out to 600 meters, 100 meters beyond industry standards, and 40 Gig to 300 meters which is more than double the specified 125 meters in the OM4 standards,” adds Samamra.
Berk-Tek, the only copper cable manufacturer that offers a 1500-foot cable packaging, smartPAK, for their Category 5e and 6 products, now offers a smaller box, MacPak which will provide short lengths, between 200 and 500 feet of UTP cable. “When we talked with customers who have used our smartPAK, they said that added cable resulted in less waste and more pulls during installation but after the install they were looking for smaller lengths for moves adds and changes or short runs,” explains Brian Simmons, Berk-Tek’s Copper Products Business Manager. “We also saw the need for fewer and shorter runs for residential and security applications. The new MacPak is the answer and it is easier to handle and pay out, as well as saving space both at the jobsite and in the truck,” Simmons adds.
Other new innovations include the LANmark™-10G2 Category 6A, now available in a Reel-in-a-Box. This packaging eliminates payoff equipment such as reel carts and jack stands and is easier to handle with improved payout capability. This saves time and money on installation.
All of these products and packaging options, as well as Berk-Tek’s unique cable constructions, such as LANmark-XTP, the highest performing Category 6A cable; Adventum®, the plenum rated all dry indoor/outdoor fiber optic cable, now available with up to 432 strands, ArmorTek™ armored fiber cable, and OneReach™ a unique PoE extender system, will be available in Booth 907.
